Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: Can my land lord raise my electricity rate without notice?
Answer: A landlord may only charge a tenant for utilities as expressly provided by the rental agreement, so the answer to the question will depend upon what kind of system the landlord is using and whether or not the rental agreement permits the use of that system and whether or not the rent increase is an expected or possible outcome of the use of that system (A.R.S. 33-1314.01). If you believe that the rate change is not consistent with the terms and conditions of your rental agreement, the LegalLEARN Helpline toll-free telephone number is 1-866-637-5341.
