Public Benefits

Public benefits provide people help with food, health care, and financial support. These programs are designed to protect families and individuals and give them access to basic necessities.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as “Food Stamps”), helps families and individuals with low incomes get food and nutrition.

The Women, Infants, and Children program, known as WIC, helps women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum, as well as young children.

The Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) program gives money and other help to families with children while they work to support themselves.

Disability benefits provide income if health problems keep you from working. You may qualify for help through two programs run by the Social Security Administration.

The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) works with health plans to provide health care services to eligible Arizona families and individuals.

Medicare is health insurance program for people 65 and older and some people with disabilities that helps pay for premiums, copays, and deductibles.

The Arizona Long Term Care System provides health care services for eligible individuals 65 and older that need help with daily life activities.

Unemployment Insurance provides temporary payments if you lose your job through no fault of your own. In Arizona, you must meet certain eligibility requirements.

Free or reduced fee legal help may be available for those who qualify.
