QUESTIONS

  • I was divorced in 1987. My former spouse has been living with the same person in SC since before the divorce. My former spouse still recieves 30% of my pension. SC is a common law state. Do I have any recourse in proving she is living in a martial state and stopping this benefit?
  • I rented an apartment for 1 year, then bought a house. Three times scheduled a walk through & manger did not show. The apartment was clean and in great condition. They still kept my deposit & are charging me an additional $260 for a old broken closet wheel, Painting for next tenant & blinds. I have pictures the place was clean & in the same condition I got. The damaged blinds I replaced. I disputed the charges but it was sent to collections how do I fight this? Its now been 2 years am I reactivating a dormant debt?
  • I received an eviction notice on my door at 8pm, after returning home from work, on November 25th. The court date is set for Dec.1st. This gave me no time to request off from work. The only 2 business days are Friday and Monday. They sent me a 5 day notice certified mail, but the part I am supposed to sign is already removed. This has happened before. I have received this before the same way. My question is what to do about my court date when I am already scheduled to work on the 1st. Is it legal to allow 2 business days before receiving eviction papers and court date?
  • I recently moved out of an apartment, I was there for about 4 years. Now I am currently looking for a new place to live. I found a house for rent, the rental agency requires my most current landlord to verify that I did live at that address and paid rent. When they called him to verify, he refused to answer any questions. Can he do that? Now I may have a lot harder time finding a place to rent.

  • I have taken care of my father for many years and he finally passed away in 2013. He put my name on the house deed in 2011 but kept the mortgage in his and my late mother's names. Now that they are both deceased what do I do about the mortgage that is in his and my mother's name? There was no probate as I took over the mortgage payment and the one bill he still owed on. I simple have no clue what to do about the mortgage because I only have $730.00 per month in Social security disability and know that banks won't lend to anyone with that low an income. What can I do?
