Question: I have a 1 year old child. Her father went to prison when she was 2 months old. Now his mother is trying to get visitation with my daughter. Were set to go to trial in April. I'm not sure exactly what to do. I don't have a lawyer and I'm a full time single parent . I can't afford a lawyer. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do or file. I don't understand the terms or the paperwork at all. Can she get visitation if I don't get a lawyer or miss file the information?

Answer: There is a law for 3rd party visitation rights (grandparents rights) if certain criteria is met.  You can read the law and conditions at http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ars/25/00409.htm.  The Legal Learn Center may be able to qualify you for a Modest Means Attorney at 866-637-5341, or you can apply on this website under the Legal Learn Center on the home page.  The Modest Means is a program that can offer a one hour consultation for $75 (if you meet the guidelines).
