Question: My son is 2 his dad has been approved for social security is my son qualified for benefits through that?
Answer: To receive benefits, a child must have at least one parent that is disabled or retired and eligible for social security benefits; or a parent who died after working long enough in a job where he/she paid social security taxes
The child must also be:
• Unmarried
• Younger than 18 years old
• Between 18-19 and a full-time student
• 18 or older and disabled
Within a family, a child may receive up to half of the parent’s full social security benefits (75% if parent is deceased).
