Question: How can I get a copy of my son's deceased father's tax return to show social security that he claimed my son as his son?
Answer: Normally it is not possible to get a copy of a person’s personal records such as hospital records and tax records. This information is only given with some form of authorization either by the person or the person’s representative. (http://www.azleg.gov/FormatDocument.asp?inDoc=/ars/42/02054.htm&Title=42&DocType=ARS). It is also possible to call an IRS Taxpayer Advocate to find out if there is a possible way to get help. There is one in every state and they can be found by using the TAS Map. There is only one located in Arizona. The office is located at 4041 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85012. It can be contacted by phone at 602-636-9500.
