questions & answers

Question: I took my car into a shop, they charged me for a rebuilt engine plus alot more and what I got was a new timing belt and a painted engine Ive had it checked out by a certified mechanic I want my money back ($3000) and he needs to be shut down. What are my resources in getting my $$$ back?

Answer: If you feel you have been wrongly treated by the car shop, you have the right to sue the owner of the shop with a civil suit. For legal assistance on the matter you may want to contact an attorney. Small claims court is an inexpensive and speedy method of resolving most civil disputes however claims cannot exceed $2,500. All cases are heard by a judge or a hearing officer and once those decisions are made they are final and binding. For more information about the Small Claims process including flow charts for both Plaintiff and Defendant, visit the Maricopa County Justice Courts Online. Forms for filing a Small Claims case can be found online at the Maricopa Justice Court Forms online.

Civil suits may also be brought for amounts larger than $2,500 at the Superior Court. For more information on that process please and to find a court in your area click here.
