Question: I have a question concerning the law about zoning your property. My parents own 5 acres of land. They would like to if they are able to sell a couple acres to me. We are un sure if the law would alow this. Since there property is zoned for 5 acres.
Answer: You may want to consult with an attorney directly, as the answer can change depending on your specific circumstances. At a minimum you will need to know what the exact current zoning designation is in order to determine if it truly only allows one house per 5 acres, and you will need to know whether your parents can sell without obtaining a formal lot split or minor land subdivision. If the land is already a part of a subdivision or other improved area, it is possible that they will not be able to split the land further and sell it to you.
