Question: Can a writ of restitution be stopped

Answer: The plaintiff in an eviction action – the landlord – may stop a writ of restitution from being executed either by not asking the court to issue it or by having it canceled before it is executed. Landlords often do this either because the evicted tenant has already vacated the premises and returned their keys or because the tenant has paid the amount of the judgment against them.
