Landlord and Tenant - Mobile Home Parks
questions & answers
Question: We have been tenants of a mobile home park for 5 years. 4 years ago the park was sold to new owners. We have been paying lot rent, now the owners want to charge us as renters of the mobile also. They do not own the mobile it is in the name of the previous owners. I understand paying lot rent and have no issue with that but can they charge us rent on a mobile that they don't own?
Answer: The former owners of the park may have sold their non-tenant-owned home mobiles to the new owners of the park, although if you have a current long-term rental agreement with the new owners of the park, then that may not matter. Regardless, it might be wise to determine precisely what your legal rights and responsibilities are with the assistance of a legal advocate.
