Question: Can my landlord impose a fee because I own a washing machine? This fee was not indicated on my original rental contract I signed 9 years ago. This fee was implemented AFTER they built a laundry room. Their excuse for charging this fee is that the water bill is higher, which wasn't an issue before they built the laundry room.

Answer: As a general rule, a landlord may not impose a new fee during the term of an existing rental agreement but may impose a new fee upon the renewal of the rental agreement by the tenant.
