Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities
questions & answers
Question: Is my apartment company responsible for providing me a fire extinguisher?
Answer: Under the statewide Arizona Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, landlords are required to “comply with the requirements of applicable building codes materially affecting health and safety” (A.R.S. 33-1324). Building codes always include provisions addressing fire extinguishing systems and/or equipment – so the answer to your question will be found in your specific community’s building code. The local fire department may know what the requirements are.
