Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities

questions & answers

Question: I gave notice in May to move during August (lease ending July 31). The landlord says I have to wait to get the amount they're going to charge me. They have a habit of delivering information the day before it's due. How long do I have to give them to get me this information?

Answer: If you are referring to the amount of any deductions the landlord may make to your refundable security deposit at the end of your tenancy, then the landlord may wait until after you have moved out and sent a letter to the landlord requesting the return of your deposit (A.R.S. 33-1324(D)). After receiving this letter from the tenant, the landlord is required by law to provide the tenant with an itemized list of all deductions together with the amount due and payable to the tenant within 14 business days.
