questions & answers
Question: My landord put me out for a whole week for repairs on my patio. They did provide me housing. I was only prepare to be out for a day or two. Thats what they told me. It turned into a week. I spend alot of money and short on my rent. They don't want to compensate me for the trouble. What can i do?
Answer: Especially when a landlord provides a tenant with substitute housing while repairing the tenant’s rented dwelling, even if those repairs take longer than anticipated the tenant very likely will only have a claim for additional compensation if the tenant can prove that the landlord delayed the repairs either deliberately or negligently. Any tenant who makes a request of a landlord should do so in a signed letter that describes and explains the tenant’s request in detail and asks that the request be addressed as soon as possible. The tenant should also keep a copy of this letter for their records.
