Question: I am a Veteran and need legal assistance to resolve a DUI citation. How do I find a list of attorneys who work with the Veterans Court program?

Answer: Not every city in Arizona has a Veterans’ Court. The cities that have Veteran’s Courts are Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, Flagstaff, and Lake Havasu. Veterans’ Courts are fairly new to Arizona and there is hope that more cities will develop Veterans’ Courts. If you are arrested in a city that has a Veterans’ Court you should be asked if you ever served in the military during your arraignment hearing. If your case is eligible, it will be transferred to the Veterans’ Court docket with your permission. When you go to Veterans’ Court you will be assigned a public defender who will help you. Some people choose to have private representation however. There is not a list of attorneys’ who work in Veterans’ Court; any attorney can represent someone in Veterans’ Court. If you were not offered Veterans’ Court as an option you can request to have your case transferred to the Veterans’ Court docket if there is a Veterans’ Court in the city you were arrested.
