Unemployment Compensation
questions & answers
Question: I am collecting unemployment and want to go to school to get a masters degree. I will be attending ONLINE only. Can I keep filing for my weekly benifits?
Answer: Becoming a full time student can potentially disqualify a person from unemployment eligibility. Under many circumstances, students are no longer considered available for work, a key eligibility requirement. However, a student may be eligible for benefits if he or she meets certain criteria. For more information about the criteria, see AZLawHelp’s article Unemployment Compensation http://www.azlawhelp.org/articles_info.cfm?sc=17&mc=2&articleid=50 . To specifically determine whether a person remains eligible for benefits upon becoming a student, contact the Arizona Department of Economic Security https://www.azdes.gov/esa/uibenefits/uibhome.asp .
