Parental Rights & Obligations
questions & answers
Question: After 6 months of being pregnant my boyfriend and I have separated and he wants nothing to do with our unborn child do i have to put his name on the birth certificate?
Answer: No. You are not required to do so. Note - the name of your child does not effect your parental rights or the rights of the natural father. For example, your baby's name will not effect your right to seek child support from the natural father; nor will it effect the the natural father's rights (should paternity be established) to pursue a custody arrangment and/or visitation with the child.
