Adoption

questions & answers

Question: I was put into foster care when I was 8, and during that time my biological mothers rights were severed. I was adopted when I was 12, and love my family. My biological mother has contacted my numerous times after the agency leaked my last name. I am trying to figure out if it is legal for her to have any contact with me what so ever? I do not want to hear from her. She is NOT my mother and I want nothing to do with her.

Answer: Not knowing if you are an adult or minor make this a bit difficult to answer. A lot depends on the type of adoption your parents went through and if you are still a minor. If it was a closed adoption case, your biological mother would have no right to contact you. If the adoption was open, she may have the ability to have information given to her. If you are a minor, your adoptive or legal parents would have the say so in who you have contact with. You, as an adult can decide who you want to have contact/relationship with. Title 8 of the Arizona Revised Statutes go over all the information on adoption.
