Child Support
questions & answers
Question: My kids are over 18 how I can stop the child support
Answer: Arizona law allows you to discontinue child support once your children are over the age of 18 and finished with high school or a high school equivalency program. (A.R.S. Section 25-501). If your child is over 18 but still a high school student or in a high school equivalency program, you must continue support until age 19. Of course, if your child is disabled, support may be ordered to continue beyond age 19. If your support order does not contain a presumptive termination date (many older ones do not), you will need to contact the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Division of Child Support Services and fill out the appropriate paperwork to stop the child support. However, if you have arrears of child support owed, DCSS will collect the arrears until you are paid up. If you are current on child support, DCSS is the place to go.
