Child Support
questions & answers
Question: How can we stop paying child support for our daughter who has been living with us for the last 5 years? We have asked her mother to write a letter to have it stopped, but she refuses. She is worried they will try to make her pay the money back, since she has been taking it under false pretenses. PLease help!
Answer:
According to DES, "when there is a change in visitation or custody of the child, you can either go to court and ask for a change in the child support order, or you may ask DCSE to modify the court order. You may be able to reduce child support or begin receiving child support from the other parent."
Modification forms can be found at your local county superior court's website in the court's self service center.
