Child Support

questions & answers

Question: Can a non custodial parent pay child support by actually buying the stuff they need when they need it? for example, my ex wants to buy the kids clothes when they need it and says thats paying child support.. is that possible?

Answer: Generally, If the parent does not send payments through the Support Payment Clearinghouse, the court may consider those payments as "gifts" and may not credit those payments toward the child support obligation. A permanent record is provided by the Support Payment Clearinghouse if a dispute arises later, see the article located here.
