Child Support

questions & answers

Question: can i get child support for my adopted daughter from my husband

Answer:

According to your question, the daughter of your husband is now your daughter too. Getting child support for your daughter from the other biological parent depends on what rights were severed between the daughter and the other biological parent, due to the marriage between you and your husband, and the adoption of his daughter (making you the mother, I’m assuming). You may need to refer to your adoption decree and or marriage decree. You may also want to contact the agency or court that helped with the adoption to see if or what rights does the other biological parent have, and if they are still liable to pay child support.

Down below are some resources and information that will help. The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) homepage is also cited. The DES has a child support enforcement program you may need to visit to see what the requirements are to get child support. Also, there is a court locator page cited too, to help locate your court for additional information.

This is the link to the Arizona Court Locator. By clicking on any county in Arizona, you will find a list of courts in that county, and contact information for that court. Visit the main website to learn more about the operation of each court how or what it does and the processes of the court.

This is the Arizona Department of Economic Security homepage. You will find the child support programs under “Child and Family” section.  You will also find the contact information and office hours for the Child Support Enforcement program. Here you will also find what is needed to file for child support, what the requirements are, and whether or not you may get child support for your daughter.
