Question: Are there any type of communication laws, guidelines,(w/ the mother) that are necessary for when I have my children during my parenting time?

Answer: No particular state law establishes guidelines for the degree of communication you must allow between your children and their mother while you are exercising parenting time. In general, your parenting time is just that: your time. However, you should carefully review the parenting plan to ensure that special rules were not included regarding contact in certain situations, such as extended out-of-state vacations.
If each of you agreed to help the children stay in contact with the other parent during your own parenting time, then you need to keep your promise and obey the settlement. If you don't, you could get into trouble with the family law judge, and the mother could conceivably file a breach of contract lawsuit against you in civil court - especially if money damages were somehow involved. Also, judges like to see both parents cooperating and encourage contact with the "missing" parent during *all* parenting time - mostly because it's good for the children and fosters respect between the parties.
