Name Change
questions & answers
Question: I filed for divorce about 2 years ago but my ex wife still has my last name. I wasn't aware and didnt have the money to pay for it afterwards. She lives in the same state but different county. How do i go about getting her maiden name back to her?
Answer: There are no legal actions you are able to take to force your ex-wife to take her maiden name back. She would have to legally make the changes herself. Some states allow couples to modify their divorce decree but if the divorce is final, there is very little you can do to facilitate a name change. Contact a licensed attorney in order to gather more information regarding the alteration of a divorce decree.
