Landlord and Tenant Rights and Responsibilities

questions & answers

Question: My landlord and her husband and friend came to do yard maintance, with my permission. Later when I went outside, I noticed my large area rug that I had rolled up and put up on back patio was gone along with all the Large trash bags I had put aside of aluminum cans. It was obvious I collected/saved aluminum cans, I had desingated a assigned area in the corner of the yard with a "make shift small fence. I asked her about them and she told me that she would discuss those items when she sees me, I should have rights, to me that is like stealing?

Answer: The unauthorized taking of another's property may have civil and/or criminal implications under A.R.S. § 13-1802 and/or A.R.S. § 12-542. If you would like to discuss the matter with law enforcement, you may do so by contacting your local law enforcement agency. If you would like to discuss your matter with an attorney, you may find an attorney on the AZ State Bar site at www.azbar.org.
