Discrimination on the Job

Questions & Answers

Question: My finance is being threatened with termination of her job, harrassed ever since she had obtained a FMLA for her daughter's condition. There are things that have been said to to her in meetings with her boss and she needs to know if she can legally record those conversations without her boss knowing as proof of harrassment?

Answer: Your fiance should not record any conversations until speaking with an employment law attorney about the situation.  I know this is hard to believe, but even if she did record evidence proving harassment, there could be severe ramifications.  Both her job and even a valid claim for harassment could be jeopardized/compromised.   She also may want to consider contacting the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the federal agency that regulates workplace discrimination. You can contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by calling 800-669-4000 or through www.eeoc.gov. The website will help you locate an EEOC field office in Arizona. The Civil Rights Division enforces state antidiscrimination law in Arizona. You can contact the Civil Rights Division at 602-542-5263 or 877-491-5742 or go to its website: www.azag.gov/civil_rights/.
