Answer: If there is a dangerous condition that exists and you fear for your safety, do not hesitate to contact the police for help. Furthermore, you may also want to go to a friend’s or family member’s house to avoid confrontation at home. This is a case of domestic violence and there are several resources that are available. You can also type in “domestic violence” in the search bar at the top of this page to get links to domestic violence counselors or shelters in your county if need be. Most often times, cases of domestic violence go unreported for several reasons but there are options available to those who do act. There is counseling for both victims, as well as abusers. There are also shelters or safe houses that will pick you up in a van, and then take you to an undisclosed location for the protection of the occupying victims-- which may be useful in this particular situation. There are 24 hour information resource centers that you can call that can best guide you through the most appropriate actions. Lastly you can file an order of protection against your abuser. This may be the most tedious action because there are several steps that must be taken before the order is given. All the resources are listed on this website and you are encouraged to look through the list to find what is best for you.
