QUESTIONS

  • My ex has decided that he would like to relinquish his parental rights. When we go to court and the judge allows this (he's been out of the picture for 10 yrs) will the child's last name change right then, will it go to my maiden name? I'm not sure who to ask any of these questions to?
  • My roommate flaked out on me and I need to pay a termination fee for the apartment. We are both signed on the lease but I need to know if my roommate is also responsible to split the termination fee and if so, what if my roommate refuses? Will she be responsible for paying her part? The termination fee is four months of rent and I am able to pay two (half) of the overall fee. My landlords said if she won't pay her part, it will be sent to collections and they will also require me to pay the remaining balance if she doesn't.
  • I am a Tenant At Will and the manager of the ***** is trying to evict me and will not accept my payment. I live at unit 12. I had to move from 5 because the sewer backed up, I was undergoing cancer treatment at the time and could not stay there. It never was fixed. Then management offered me unit 15 so I moved. The bathtub was not properly finished, so they offered me unit 12. We have had bedbugs, which they failed to treat properly. Then they called an exterminator. This apartment also has an rat or squirrel living in the walls and it sounds like a race track in here! Help.
  • We are schedule to move out on 1/31/08. Landlord has offer to have a mock walk thru on 1/24 to let us know of anything she notices that would need fixing. We are then having the final walkthru on 1/31/08. She may not catch all items until after 2/1/08 when she is cleaning, etc. Is this true that she can go back after our final walkthru and find things without us being there and after the fact?
  • I am reaching out on behalf of my mother. My mother has toxoplasmosis and has been losing her eyesight gradually. It is hard for her to do things by herself (but she is proud and I can’t watch her all the time to make sure she doesn’t cause issues like this). My mom ordered checks through a third party associated with her bank. this website makes her enter her own account numbers. Due to this, she accidentally made bad checks and tried to pay her rent with one. They didn’t notify us until yesterday that the check bounced and are trying to charge us 100 dollars in fees. Can I fight this legally

  • I am renting a room in a house. The landlord has not given me a signed copy of the lease/agreement. The landlord does not give me a rent receipt. I have been living here for about 8 months, sending/mailing the landlord checks regularly. Now, the landlord is asking me to give a detailed breakdown of rent/checks paid ad the associated dates in a specific format. I have done the best I can. The landlord has been sending me multiple messages regarding this over the weekend. Isn't this the landlords job, to keep track of the rent/checks paid. I feel the landlord treats me differently versus others.
  • I found a car on craigslist and went to see the vehicle. The seller and I agreed on a price. I told him I would be receiving my refund check in one week and asked if I could hold the car with a $300.00 deposit. Unfortunately my refund check became offset and I will not be receiving any money. Now the seller does not want to pay me back the deposit. Is that legal?
  • I had a drop in my pay, and now, after my Child Support Payments, my take home pay is less than 900 dollars a month. Isn't there a limit on how much money they can take for my child support if it puts me below a reasonable standard of living? I can't pay my basic living expenses, and I don't know what to do.
